About

Hand tufted rugs and wall hangings

Meet Natasha Ouimet.

Natasha’s love of the arts developed as a young child and has followed her throughout her lifetime.  She has always loved drawing, painting and making things with her hands, a love that was shared with her parents, especially her mother.  Dance was also huge part of her childhood. As a young girl, she had this little wish in the back of her mind that one day she might become a professional dancer.

After studying in the arts, photography and 2D animation, she started out her professional career working in 2d animation and television for a few years.  But in her mid-twenties, when she got the opportunity to work fulltime as a dancer, she couldn’t pass it up, she had to give it a try.  She then spent the next 15 years working as a professional Swing dancer and teacher with her dance and life partner Patrick.

Due to the pandemic and the difficulties of being a dancer during these times, she’s had to think of some new paths she might follow.  She stumbled onto rug tufting, felt compelled to try it out and has become passionate about it.

She hopes people will enjoy her soft creations and that they might add a bit of beauty and color to people’s homes.

My Rug Making Process

Here’s a little step by step description of my rug making process.
A long but very satisfying process.

The design

It’s starts off with an idea and a quick sketch. I then make a computer version of my design. Using a projector, I draw the design on my tufting cloth.

The tufting

Next comes choosing the yarn for the project and starting the tufting.
Once the tufting is complete, I apply high quality rug glue to the back to secure the yarn.

The finishings

Last step is shaving the rugs for a nice even cut, cleaning up the lines with scisors and shears, glueing on a felt back and adding a hook for the wall hangings.
